Armed assailant robs HRC’s Dupont Circle store Gay
An unidentified gunman on Jan. 18 bound and blind-folded an employee at the Human Rights Campaign’s Action Center and Store near Dupont Circle after hitting him repeatedly in the head with a pistol and forcing him to turn over money from a cash register and safe, according to a D.C. police report. Sgt. Tania Bell, supervisor of the police department’s Gay & Lesbian Liaison Unit (GLLU), which is investigating the incident, said the crime appears to be a random holdup and no evidence exists to indicate the gunman targeted the store because it is a gay business. "There’s no evidence to suggest this was a hate crime," Bell said. No other employees or customers were present at the HRC store at 1633 Connecticut Ave., N.W., at the time the gunman entered about 7 p.m., on Friday, Jan.

Brier woman reportedly abducted, quickly released
SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. -- Detectives are on the hunt for the man who allegedly forced a woman into his car on Wednesday night. Sheriff's spokesperson Rebecca hover said a 42-year-old Brier woman was out walking near 212th Street SW and Poplar Way around 8 p.m. when a man pulled up in his car and asked if she needed a ride. The woman said she did not and kept walking. Several minutes later, the same man walked up to the woman, grabbed her and pushed her into his parked car nearby, Hover said. As the man began driving off, the woman managed to open the passenger door. The man then stopped the car and told her to get out. The woman got out of the car safely. The man never displayed a weapon during the incident, detectives said, and there have not been reports of similar incidents in the area.
Across the Universe: 2-Disc Deluxe Edition (2008)
As a delivery system for injecting a new generation with Beatles music, Across the Universe is efficient as well as playful and ferocious much like the Fab Four themselves. The movie is almost an opera: plot primarily conveyed through song. And while Universe's thin 1960s-era romance never achieves the emotional complexity of even so ''simple'' a song as ''All My Loving,'' the film sure knows how to present that melody with an energy and visual invention that make you adore the tune all the more. We TV fans already knew that Universe's female lead, Evan Rachel Wood, had a beautiful voice from the few times she sang on the ABC series Once and Again. The rest of the lesser-known cast, meanwhile particularly Wood's romantic interest, played by Jim Sturgess have expressive instruments that only occasionally succumb to the Broadway-style belting that characterizes so many movie musicals.
