| Tigers, Granderson agree to 5-year, $30.25M deal
The Detroit Tigers could have kept Curtis Granderson around for a while, retaining his talents with one-year deals until he became eligible for free agency after the 2011 season. The Tigers, though, don't just wait around to make moves these days. Granderson and baseball's busiest team agreed Monday to a $30.25 million, five-year contract that includes a club option for 2013 that could make the deal worth up to $43.25 million. .

I'll miss GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, who has withdrawn from the race. I stepped off the plane from Chicago (broadcasting from the Chicago Regional Auto Show) and was given the word. I was shocked. I guess I might have been more shocked that it happened now, rather than that it happened. It seemed to be a matter of time, but I thought there was more campaigning left. I still don't understand the apparent disconnect between Republicans and conservatives. I realize the gap between being a Republican and being a conservative is wider than ever. Not as wide as, say, a river, but more like, oh, maybe a Bush. • According to an Associated Press-Ipsos poll, President Bush has reached his lowest approval rating with 30 percent of those polled saying they are happy with the job he's doing (overall) as president; he apparently is also at an all-time low in his support among Republicans.
Recruiting | Success in the state key to UW's class
The Washington Huskies signed one of their best classes in years today, recruiting analysts agree. What's a little harder to gauge is how much that means. Washington's class was rated No. 10 in the nation and No. 2 in the Pac-10 by Scout.com as of Tuesday morning, and No. 18 nationally and third in the Pac-10 by Rivals.com. Those numbers could vary a little, but probably not a lot, giving the Huskies their loftiest rankings of the Tyrone Willingham era. "It's easily their best class in some time," said Greg Biggins, a recruiting analyst for Rivals.com and StudentSportsFootball.com. "It's probably the best year for in-state talent in a lot of years, and they've pretty much gotten everybody they wanted [in the state]. "There were a lot of really good in-state guys like Kavario Middleton and Everrette Thompson that in the past might have left the state, and they were able to keep those guys.
