Hi-Tech Beauty-Buster Fixers

Whether your problem is thinning hair or acne, there are a few hot, new products on that claim to take away everything from wrinkles to too much hair. The products use some of the same technologies that a dermatologist may have used on you -- lasers, LED lights, and infrared light -- and you can use them all in your own home.

But do they work?

"These products provide at-home versions of procedures typically performed in a doctor's office: light treatments, laser hair removal, or chemical peels," says Linda Wells, editor in chief of Allure magazine.

"In terms of at-home treatments, this is just the beginning."

Wells and some Allure staffers visited The Early Show Wednesday and reported on the effectiveness of products the staffers tried for several weeks.

Keep Father Time From Marching On: New Laser Treatments Offer Gentle and Effective Skin Resurfacing in a Flash

For most people, the significant downtime involved in undergoing an invasive laser resurfacing procedure to reverse the obvious signs of aging skin is not realistic given today's busy, deadline-driven lifestyle. Product innovation continues to drive Croda’s business

MILL HALL — As Croda International grows, the head of their North American operations says product innovation will continue to be a key driver for their business. Kevin Gallagher, president of Croda, Inc., the division that oversees the company's Mill Hall manufacturing facility and other North American operations, spoke recently to members of the local plant's Community Advisory Council. Gallagher said the past year-and-a-half has been a time of change for the company with the acquisition of Uniqema, a firm based in the United Kingdom which manufactures products similar to Croda but which has strengths in different markets. “The acquisition of Uniqema has more than doubled the size of Croda International," said Gallagher. “And it has strengthened our position as a manufacturer of specialty chemicals for the cosmetics, toiletries, homecare, healthcare and pharmaceutical, plastics, food and industrial specialty markets.

J.D. meets J.D. as Jack Dann writes from down under about the imagined ...

I can remember gazing at the colorful covers before I could read, and as I learned to read, the collection had of course grown. The first SF novel I read was Festus Pragnell's The Green Man of Graypek, an early SF novel; and the reason I read it first was because I had been entranced by the Hannes Bok cover as a child. So the idea of genre novels and stories was in my mind from the get-go, a familiar part of the world of literature that I was exploring.

The first frisson happened when I met George Zebrowski and Pamela Sargent at SUNY Binghamton, which has renamed itself Binghamton University. That was in the late '60s. George had extraordinary ambition and was determined to be a writer ... a science-fiction writer. George and I started collaborating on short stories, which we sold.

Pick ‘n’ roll: Thursday’s best NBA bets

The Pistons are on the verge of their first three-game losing streak of the season, and they'll have to beat the defending NBA champs on the road to avoid that.

Detroit is fresh off an 11-game winning streak in which it outscored opponents by an average of 17 points, but it's all gone wrong this week. The Pistons have shot 39.9 percent from the field in the last two games, failing to score more than 86 points in either contest.

It's not going to get any easier for the Pistons tonight when they face Spurs star Tim Duncan. He has recorded double-doubles in all 10 regular-season home games against Detroit in his career, leading San Antonio to a 9-1 record.

Pick: Spurs

Memphis Grizzlies at Sacramento Kings (-4, 203)

Three key injuries have contributed to the Kings dropping six of their last eight games overall and four of five at home.
